CTO at Tutory · Brasília, Brazil

18 years building the technology behind how people learn.

I'm Ítalo Queiroz, a CTO who still thinks like an engineer but leads like an executive. I help education and technology companies scale platforms, teams and AI strategy without stopping the product.

Expertise

Technology decisions that hold up at scale.

The four fronts I lead day to day, from the roadmap to the infrastructure bill.

  1. Product & AI strategy

Turning business goals into a roadmap and a budget, with AI where it creates real value.

  2. Team building

Hiring, leveling and developing engineers who ship without waiting for every decision.

  3. Platform modernization

Modernizing legacy systems without stopping the product or the roadmap.

  4. Cloud efficiency

Reliable, scalable AWS infrastructure that costs less as the platform grows.

Selected impact

Learning products at national and global scale, and the teams behind them.

  1. Tutory

    2026 – now

    CTO

Leading engineering for an EdTech platform where teachers and mentors create, sell and scale courses and mentoring programs, and bringing AI into how students learn: summaries, mind maps, practice questions, chat and flashcards generated from lessons.

    • 80,000+ daily active students and mentors
    • −40% AWS costs year over year
    • Legacy modernized without freezing the product
  2. DevSquad · Emerald Publishing

    2020 – 2025

    Senior engineer & training leader

Three years inside the internal squad of Emerald Publishing, a global academic publisher based in the UK, shipping features on serverless AWS with React and Vue. At DevSquad I also built the trainee program and mentored developers.

    • 3 years building for academic publishing in the UK
    • −30% deployment time with redesigned CI/CD
    • Trainee program built from scratch
  3. Brazilian Senate · ILB

    2009 – 2010

    E-learning platform

Built the e-learning platform of the Brazilian Legislative Institute, at the Senate: enrollment, exercises, assessments, certificates, forum and chat, designed alongside the pedagogical team.

    • 500,000+ students certified in free courses
  4. Ministry of Education · FIES

    2011 – 2012

    Federal student financing

Worked on the systems behind FIES, Brazil's federal student financing program, through Squadra: student enrollment and data updates, and the calculation and tracking of government disbursements to institutions.

    • New modules for regulatory requirements
    • PostgreSQL tuned for a fast-growing contract base
  5. Qubika

    2025 – 2026

    Global clients: sports and fintech

Built with the team a multi-model AI financial assistant for a fintech with 2M+ users, and created from scratch a pre-game checklist platform for NFL stadiums.

    • NFL platform live in 3 months
  6. Onawa

    2013 – 2020

Co-founded an affiliate programs and sales channels company and led its technology from the MVP to a R$2M/month operation, building and managing the development and cloud team.

    • R$2M a month in revenue
    • −50% infrastructure cost with serverless on AWS

How I lead

What I care about when building technology.

  1. Autonomy with direction

Teams ship with autonomy when context, priorities and the quality bar are clear. My job is to make them clear, then step out of the way.

  2. Evolve without stopping

The business lives in the legacy code. I modernize in increments, with the product running and the roadmap moving.

  3. Technology that teaches

In education, every technical decision answers to the same question: does it help someone learn?

The journey

Education has been the thread all along.

Advisory & mentoring

For companies at a turning point in technology.

Alongside my role as CTO at Tutory, I advise companies and mentor technology leaders on the decisions where experience shortens the path.

Formats

  1. Technical advisory

Architecture, platform and AI decisions reviewed by someone who has run them in production. Most useful before a rewrite, a migration or a new product line.

  2. Leadership mentoring

For CTOs, heads of engineering and managers: structuring teams, hiring, leveling and running technology as part of the business.

  3. Advisory board

A technology seat at the table for EdTechs and digital businesses defining strategy, budget and roadmap.
